Sarada Peri is a writer and founder of Peri Communications.
She was Special Assistant to the President and Senior Speechwriter for President Barack Obama. Prior to joining the White House, she was a Principal at West Wing Writers, where she worked with corporate, political and nonprofit clients on speechwriting, speech delivery, op-eds, books, and message strategy. She was a speechwriter at the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Democratic National Conventions. In 2024 she was a co-manager of the convention speechwriting operation, shepherding more than 200 speeches from conception to the stage.
Sarada started her career as a high school English teacher in New Orleans. She’s been a legislative aide in the Senate, has written for publications like The Atlantic, The Washington Post, and Slate, offers political commentary in the media and on podcasts. You can spot her in documentaries on the History Channel and Netflix talking about uplifting subjects like the Great Depression and World War II.
She has lectured at numerous universities, including Harvard, Northwestern, and Yale, and delivered workshops around the world. Sarada lives outside of Washington, D.C.Sarada graduated from Tufts University and holds a Master in Public Policy from Harvard's Kennedy School.
